Boreal Bliss Haskap

Boreal Bliss is the latest haskap release from the University of Saskatchewan. We tasted it during its testing phase and recognized its exceptional promise, a breakthrough in flavour that lives up to its name.

This cultivar features a unique genetic blend: 50% Japanese and 50% wild Canadian genetics from Nova Scotia. It delivers excellent flavour with a distinctive aroma and aftertaste that sets it apart from other haskap varieties. Berries are firm with a noticeable crunch and average 2 grams each.

Boreal Bliss ripens mid to late July and is a productive producer. Shrubs are compact and tidy, beginning to fruit within 1–2 years of planting.

Haskap, also known as honeyberry, is a cold-hardy fruit that has become increasingly popular in North America. The elongated berries have a distinctive sweet-tart flavour, often compared to a blend of raspberry and blueberry, with a pleasantly complex flavour of their own.

Haskaps can be enjoyed fresh or used in jams, pies, smoothies, sauces, fruit leather and other preserves. They are also naturally rich in antioxidants, making them both a delicious and nutritious addition to the garden.
